Lucas Tanglen Clinches Championship

Under the capable management of Lucas Tanglen, Postmodern Pentathlon won the second Fantasy Olympiad on the final day Sunday.  They entered the day in third place but moved up to first when the USA beat Spain 107-100 for the men's basketball gold medal.  That gave Postmodern its second 50 point gold medal in the sport.  An hour later, it was all over when Croatia defeated Italy 8-6 for the men's water polo gold.  The head-to-head victory for Postmodern over former first place team Da Nang Dynamos removed all doubt about who would lead the final standings.
Da Nang Dynamos were seemingly always in front of the competition, leading at the end of 11 out of the 16 days.  Postmodern Pentathlon was expected to win by many, but they never actually led until hours before the end of the Games.  Now they'll top the leaderboard for the next year and a half.  It's just another example of a team that trailed throughout, got pumped up by hearing 2 Unlimited's "Get Ready For This", and cruised to victory.

Typical of a team based in the coastal lowlands, the Dynamos outscored their rivals by 120 points in the water sports entering Sunday.  Even that advantage didn't help in the water polo final.  The loss was certainly a crushing blow to Dynamos fans everywhere - yet it was hardly shocking to a fan base that sets its calendar by spring hockey playoff losses to Rochester Americans, summers of mediocre baseball, and long winters never brightened by a football playoff appearance.

Dynamos manager John Binz is reportedly considering an attempt to appease fans of the beleaguered franchise by having a lot of 22-year-old girls in size XS Cubs shirts in the stands.  It remains unclear whether this marketing move will translate to the Eastern Hemisphere.
